First Baptist Church of Pinehurst

Newsletter – September 2017

Starting Sunday, September 3 the early worship service will begin at 8:30 a.m.

It is 7 a.m. on a Wednesday morning at the Pine Crest Inn. Randy is hosting guest in the breakfast room and Margaret is behind the front desk. Lisa will soon find her way to the front porch where several men are gathering off to one side near the cat’s bed. Sometimes the cat joins them. They are chatting. A few are drinking their morning coffee. They are looking at their phones, or iPad, or perhaps a black book, yes, a Bible. No matter the tool, they are reading the Scriptures and they begin to discuss what God is saying as it is read and considered. After they have read a passage aloud, and following observations made about its context, interpretations and such, one might hear the question, “What did you hear?” Follow up questions often include, “So, what? What difference does it make? What are you going to do about it?” It is interesting how each man responds a little differently as he reflects on what God might be saying to him in the context of his life.

So it is, week after week, for an hour, in only a few square feet at the Pine Crest Inn, among a small number of men, men who believe that such a seemingly insignificant effort can make a big difference in their lives and the lives they influence. Please join us, or join the group that meets at 4:30 on Wednesday afternoons at the church. Or, start one with a few others and together practice listening to God that you might hear him speak and know his good and perfect will (In reference to Romans 12:2).

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

*************************************************************************

The church year begins with a celebration of American labor. Although secular work and human effort is a noble and profitable endeavor, it’s only the effort which we put into building God’s kingdom that reaps eternal reward. And as the body of Christ, God has given each of us unique and excellent gifts for just this purpose. In our families, relationships and church the pathway is lit by God’s Word to walk worthy of His calling.

Our Sanctuary Choir meets each Wednesday at 7:30, and in September we will begin practicing our Christmas Cantata. The Adult Praise Team meets Wednesdays at 6:00 for sound checks and practices before choir.
