Who is First Baptist Church Pinehurst??


  1. Church planted in June 2002 with 45 members and support from FBC Southern Pines, Aberdeen First Baptist, Sandhills Baptist Association and The NC Baptist Association.
  2. David Marks, Senior Pastor from 2002 – 2017. Interim Pastor, Charles Royal, from June 2017 to  May 2018. Senior Pastor Chuck Vickers from June 2018 to January 2022.
  3. Demographics – healthy mix of seniors, young families and children/youth. Surrounding communities include (approx. population): Pinehurst – 16,000, Whispering Pines – 3,000, West  End – 11,000, Carthage – 3,000. All of Moore County – 98,000.
  4. Two Sunday Worship Services – 8:30am (Modern) and 11:00am (Classic). Sunday School at 9:45am.
  5. Church membership: 320 Attendance (average): 8:30 Worship – 143, Sunday School – 170, 11:00 Worship – 111, Wednesday night meal and prayer meeting -107.
  6. Staff Includes Children & Sr. Adult Pastor, Student & Young Adult Pastor, Worship & Missions Pastor,  Full Time Church Administrator and Pianist.
  7. Approximately $720,000 annual budget. Since inception, congregational giving has exceeded  budget.
  8. Campus (19 acres): Facility (approx. 30K square feet): Church Fellowship Hall (with Industrial Kitchen) seats approx. 300, Sanctuary seats approx. 400 with state-of-the-art worship capabilities including stage, baptismal and sound booth, 7 adult Sunday school rooms, Choir Room/Worship Pastors office, 3 executive offices, children’s wing with 8 classrooms, covered playground area, two additional mobile classrooms.

The purpose of this document is to specify the expectations and commitments of the Interim Pastor for First Baptist Church of Pinehurst.


First Baptist Church of Pinehurst is a community of believers with the desire to share the Gospel with our world. At First Baptist Church Pinehurst, our mission is simply to lead people to love Jesus! Our vision is to love the Lord our God with all our strength, mind, heart, and soul. To love one another. To tell the world of Jesus and His love. To serve God by caring for others. To encourage Christian growth in our lives. We highly value our relationships with one another. We look to KNOW Jesus and to CONNECT with each other. That is why we GROW through fellowship, and ultimately grow closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all the lost and broken and GO to lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ. First Baptist Church Pinehurst is all about helping people find and follow Jesus. We believe it is possible for church to be the highlight of the week for the entire family.  This happens when we focus everything on Jesus, connect in community, and follow God’s Word.




  1. The Interim Pastor will endeavor to give spiritual guidance and pastoral care to the congregational life of the church.
  2. He will be the primary leader of worship. This shall include the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services on Sunday morning and Wednesday night Prayer Meeting.
  3. He will work with church staff to plan and coordinate worship services.
  4. He will provide ongoing leadership and development of church staff.
  5. He will be conscientious in the administration of the ordinances of the church.
  6. He will work with the Pastors of Children & Sr. Adults, Student & Young Adults, Worship & Missions providing Christian education opportunities in the church.
  7. He may be called upon to provide pastoral visitation of the sick and will offer counseling as time and opportunity will allow.
  8. He will be responsible to give pastoral care during and after the death of a member.                                    
  9. He will be available to perform funerals, weddings, etc. as called upon by the families of FBC Pinehurst. 
  10. Attend Deacon’s Meetings and Church Council Meetings under the direction of the Deacon Chairperson and Church Council Chairperson.
  11. He may represent FBC of Pinehurst at Ministerial Meetings as needed under direction of the Pastoral Staff.
  12. He will not become a candidate for the position of Pastor.
  13. He will not interfere with the work of the Pastor Search Committee and will recognize that assistance in their process can best be resourced by the appropriate associational and/or state convention consultants, unless specifically asked by the Search Committee.
